Assistants and X access

Last updated: October 23, 2026

Tamable lets two kinds of outside services act for you: the AI assistant you connect, and your X account. Handing either of them access is a real decision, so this page says exactly what each one can and can’t do before you connect anything.

Your assistant

Assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT and Claude Code connect to Tamable over MCP (the Model Context Protocol). The assistant is your own: it runs under your account with its provider, and Tamable doesn’t run an AI model of its own on your content. What your assistant reads from Tamable and sends back passes through that provider, under your agreement with them.

What it can do

  • Read the workspace: its writing guidelines, sites, X accounts, series, ideas and posts.
  • Capture ideas, saving your words exactly as you gave them.
  • Draft blog posts and X threads from your ideas.
  • Edit posts. Editing a post that was approved or scheduled sends it back to review, and it only goes out if a person approves it again. Edits to a published blog post stay unpublished until a person publishes again.
  • Submit a finished draft for review, and answer the notes you leave on a post.
  • Schedule a post that a person has already approved.
  • Import images from a public web address into the workspace and describe them (alt text).
  • Add a post that isn’t published yet to a series.

What it can never do

  • Approve a post. Only a person in your workspace approves.
  • Publish a post, to your website or to X.
  • Unschedule a post.
  • Change a thread that is already on X.
  • Delete posts or ideas, or change the workspace’s settings, members, sites or X accounts.
  • See any workspace other than the one it was approved for.

Everything an assistant does shows in the post’s activity, under its name.

Connectors and personal keys

  • Connectors (Claude and ChatGPT): you add Tamable’s connector address, shown in Settings › Assistants, to your assistant, sign in to Tamable and approve the connection. On that approval screen you pick the one workspace the assistant acts in, and it acts as you, in that workspace only.
  • Personal keys (Claude Code and other tools that send a key): you create a key in Settings › Assistants. It is shown once, with a ready command that names the workspace it works in. A key acts as you and only reaches workspaces you are a member of. Anyone holding it can do the same, so keep it secret.

How to revoke access

In Settings › Assistants, Disconnect a connector or revoke a personal key. It stops working at once. You can also remove Tamable from your assistant’s own connector settings. Each person disconnects the assistants they connected; deleting your account disconnects all of yours.

Your X account

Connecting an X account lets Tamable post your approved posts and threads to it. A workspace owner connects it in Settings › X accounts, and X asks you to authorize Tamable. Tamable requests these permissions:

  • Post on your behalf (tweet.write): to post your approved posts and threads, and to take down the first parts of a thread if X rejects a later one (see below).
  • Read posts (tweet.read): to show a post you quote the way X will show it.
  • Read your profile (users.read): your handle and name, and whether your account allows long posts, so Tamable counts characters against the right limit.
  • Upload media (media.write): to attach the images, GIFs and videos in your posts.
  • Stay connected (offline.access): so scheduled posts can go out without you signing in to X each time.

What Tamable posts, and when

  • Only what a person approved or scheduled. A post goes out when a person in your workspace presses Post to X now, or at the time it was scheduled for after a person approved it. An assistant can never make a post go out.
  • Threads go out whole, or not at all. If X rejects one part of a thread, Tamable deletes the parts it already posted, marks the post failed with X’s reason, and doesn’t try again by itself. You fix it and post the whole thread again.
  • Nothing else. Tamable doesn’t read your timeline, messages, followers or likes, and never follows, likes, reposts or sends messages for you.
  • Posts stay on X. Once a thread is on X, Tamable doesn’t change or delete it. Removing it is done on X.

The tokens X gives Tamable are stored encrypted and used only to post for your workspace and to check your account’s limits.

How to disconnect

In Settings › X accounts, choose Disconnect on the account. Tamable erases its tokens and can no longer post to it. To also revoke Tamable’s access on X’s side, go to Settings and privacy › Security and account access › Apps and sessions › Connected apps on X, and remove Tamable.
